Turkey is attracting significant levels of Foreign Direct Investment into its property market and the confidence of the investors is supported by the government ongoing infrastructure improvements and plans for tourism developments in all coastal regions. The arrival of the low cost airlines has significantly improved the competitiveness of the property investment in Turkey compared to other coastal countries in Europe. The foreigners have been buying properties since 2003 and after the new mortgage system was introduced in January 2007 which allowed foreigners to obtain a mortgage in Turkey the number of buyers has rapidly grown. The property market in Turkey is predicted to approach a'boom' period. The prices in the coastal areas of Turkey are predicted to increase by 40-50% in the following two years. The property prices are fuelled by increasing number of visitors. Currently the tourism industry in Turkey is ranked 11th in the world.
